In the town of Anchorage, Alaska, people lined up at Bosco’s Feb. 22, 2023, to meet the artist and author of the Archie Comics, Dan Parent. Parent stayed at the Bosco’s from 4-8 p.m. signing comics, conversing with fans and selling original works.
With a small booth set up by the front door, guest coming for the signing were able to browse the store and special edition comics while they waited in line to meet Parent.
John Bosco, the store owner, revealed that the turn out of the event was larger than some of their previous signings with other authors.“We’ve had some big-name people here and no turn out, and we’ve had some quieter people who have come and perked them up, you never know.”
Participants in the event formed a long line waiting to take photos with Parent.
One attendee, Kasala Hunter, stood in line with her mother Misty waiting to get her comics signed by Parent and explained why his comics meant so much to her. “When I was little, since I have autism, I was able to understand and read more comic books, like the Archie Comics.”
Hunter, who uses ASL to communicate, showed her excitement over the inclusivity of the event. “A lot of events are made for hearing people, so I am excited to be able to attend the event and feel welcome.

“I’m heading to Fairbanks this weekend for the comic convention there”, said Parent. “It’s nice to meet the people who read your work and support you.”
There are no current dates for any future events, but many locals expressed their want to come back again.
